Building the first version of Mindfully

Like most ideas in their infancy, powered by the enthusiasm to build something new, we quickly imagined a list of features and user experience stories. We fiercely debated and defended the importance of each feature and its differentiating nature. Satisfied with our great start, and optimistic about tomorrow we added these features to the tracker and called it a day.

The following day we sat down to prioritize these features and begin building. In retrospect, this is where we had one of the best discussions. We were debating:

What should we build first? or What is the epicenter?

Each of us had our interpretation of what the epicenter of Mindfully was, we discussed for hours and disagreed mostly as each of us imagined Mindfully to be something different. we needed to first define what epicenter meant and come to a shared understanding.

To find that epicenter ask yourself, “if I took this one thing away, would what I’m selling still exist.”

Armed with our Mission, we went over the list of features and user stories to find our epicenter and a realization.

To make mindful eating accessible we want to improve access to weight-inclusive healthcare.

We decided to build a website that allowed you to find weight-inclusive healthcare professionals. We limited the collection to the US only and added the ability to filter by State.

We were very happy to release Mindfully and share it with the community.
